There are two methods of gloving. Open and closed.
Closed:
1. Keeping hands inside sleeves, turn your sterile packet so that the fingers face you.
2. Using your right hand pick up the right one by the rim of the cuff with palm facing upwards and fingers towards you.
3. With your left hand pull the rim of the cuff over the left hand and over the cuffs of the gown. You can use your left hand within the gown sleeve to adjust the fingers on the right hand.
4. Do the same with the left hand.
5. The skin of the hand must never come into contact with the outside of the latex, so contamination is minimal.
Open:
1. Both hands are pushed through the cuffs of the gown.
2. The sterile pack face forward.
3. Pick up the right one with the left hand with the inner folded down surface. The inside area can be touched freely as it shouldn’t ever come into contact with other sterile items.
4. Pull onto the right hand, but leave the cuff folded up and secure it over the thumb of the right hand.
5. Using the right hand, slip the fingers under the left cuff and pull onto the left hand, and secure by hooking on the thumb as in the right hand.
6. Then slide the left hand fingers under the folded cuff of the right hand unhooking the thumb and pulling it down over the cuff of the gown.
